It’s not a huge day for new Blu-ray Disc and UltraViolet titles, but the week is made significant by the release of several films to Sony’s “Mastered in 4k” editions. 4k (also called Ultra HD) is four-times the current HD standard providing a resolution of 3840 x 2160. Sony has released a total nine films remastered in 4k today including Ghostbusters, Taxi Driver, and Spider-Man (see the full list below). In 1080p, Cloud Atlas starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry is now available in a Blu-ray Combo Pack that includes Blu-ray, DVD, and UltraViolet copies of the film. If you’re a Dexter fan, Season 7 of the Showtime series has been released to a 3-Disc set that contains all 12 episodes. And, Lions Gate has released Texas Chainsaw in a 3D Blu-ray/Blu-ray/Digital Copy/UltraViolet edition. But unlike other 3D releases, Texas Chainsaw contains both the 3D and 2D versions of the film on one Blu-ray Disc. Take a look at our picks for the week below. Here’s a link to all new Blu-ray & UltraViolet releases available at Amazon.
