In a bit of industry news, Starz announced a new agreement with Sony Pictures today that extends their current exclusive first-run premium pay TV agreement through 2021 — a five year extension from the previous deal that had included movies released through 2016. The agreement includes titles from Sony Pictures-owned Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures Classics, TriStar, and Screen Gems. This year, you’ll be able to see films such as The Amazing Spider-Man, Zero Dark Thirty, and Men In Black 3 exclusively on Starz.
The Starz distribution outlets include both Starz and Encore channels, in formats that offer standard and high-definition VOD, HD On Demand, 3D On Demand, and streaming services using STARZ PLAY and ENCORE PLAY.
“STARZ and ENCORE subscribers have enjoyed the consistently stellar theatrical product from Sony, and we are thrilled to extend our exclusive partnership into the next decade,” said Chris Albrecht , Starz Chief Executive Officer.”
Financial terms, as you can guess, were not disclosed.
