LG has announced they are now taking pre-orders in South Korea for their 55-inch (54.6-inch diagonal) OLED HDTV. The LG 55EM9700 will sell for the equivalent of about $10,000 US and is expected to start shipping to consumers in February. The OLED TV measures 4 millimeters (0.16 inches) in thickness and weighs less than 22 pounds. The 55EM9700 utilizes LG’s 4-pixel (WRGB) technology that incorporates a white pixel along with red, green, and yellow pixels. The set also integrates Color Refiner for more vibrant images and boasts “infinite contrast ratio” for great contrast no matter what environment the display is viewed in. LG says announcements of wider distribution will be made throughout the month, and you can expect a big showing of the OLED TV at CES 2013. Research firm DisplaySearch says the OLED market is expected to sell 7.2 million units by 2016. LG won Best of Show at CES 2012 last year for the 55EM9600 OLED TV.
