ESPN’s coverage of the British Open 2012 begins tonight at 4:00 am Eastern Time on ESPN 3 with holes 9-11. If you’re nowhere near a TV set, you can watch the British Open streaming via the internet on WatchESPN.com. The service can be viewed on your PC, or tablet or smartphone via a free app (available for Android and Apple iOS). WatchESPN is also available on Xbox Live. Unfortunately, you need to have an account with a service provider that supports WatchESPN — and there aren’t many. As of today Time Warner Cable, Comcast, Bright House and Verison FiOS are the only providers that support the service. If your service provider isn’t supported (we tried to sign-up with a DIRECTV account but no dice), you can try downloading The Open Championship mobile app which will keep you up-to-date with scores and video highlights. A half-an-hour later, at 4:30 am, EPSN will broadcast The Open Championship in HD on the networks flagship EPSN channel as well as ESPN MobileTV.
