Detroit’s Calvin Johnson lands ‘Madden 13’ cover

In a surprising final vote by the fans, Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson beat out Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton for the right to grace the Madden 13 cover later this summer. Nearly 20 million votes were cast throughout the seven week voting process that saw Johnson, a no. 6 seed (yes, they seeded the players for this) beat out 31 other candidates, including Netwon by a 52%-48% margin. Both players took part in a Times Square ceremony to mark the occasion, and now Johnson now gets to try to survive the infamous Madden curse. The game is scheduled for an August 28 release.
