FiOS TV apps coming soon to Samsung products

Today Samsung officially announced that Verizon FiOS TV apps would soon be available for Samsung Smart TVs and Smart Blu-ray players. Through the app, releasing this year, FiOS TV subscribers will be able to access 26 live TV channels including HD channels. The app will also give users access to video-on-demand titles (numbering over 10,000) on TVs, PCs and mobile devices. Does this mark the death of the cable box? Maybe we’re getting close. Unless you need a DVR feature there’s no reason why apps can’t control channel lineups just as well as a receiver. Samsung will be the first electronics manufacturer to get the Verizon app, which could release anytime this year.
