Blockbuster, now owned by DISH Network, has announced they will keep 1,500 stores open in the U.S. after a New York court approved closing of the stores under bankruptcy protection. The company says they have made agreements with the property owners to keep the stores running, which in effect will employ 15,000 people.
Blockbuster president Michael Kelly says over 10 million people live near a Blockbuster store. He added, “By lowering pricing and offering competitive summer promotions, we’ve brought millions of customers back into Blockbuster stores in the last three months.”
Blockbuster recently ran a promotion during July 4th weekend offering a free rental when you rent a new release title at the same time.
