Comcast begins Xfinity expansion in Vermont

Comcast has started its expansion of Xfinity services in the state of Vermont, where the company's 3-pack of services: Xfinity TV, Xfinity Internet and Xfinity Voice, are now offered.

DirecTV to expand HD channels in hotels

If you stay at a hotel with HDTV and DirecTV, you might never want to leave your room after the satellite company expands its lineup to include 100 HD channels. The company is also addressing hotel room bacteria by providing an anti-microbial remote for guests, a first for DirecTV.

‘Top Gun’ with Digital Copy gets release date

Paramount will release a 25th anniversary edition of Top Gun, the 1986 film which won an Oscar for Best Music, Original song and was nominated for three others. Top Gun stars Tom Cruise as an Navy pilot who gets sent to the Top Gun school at NAS Miramar,after disobeying orders at sea. Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, Kelly McGillis, and Meg Ryan also have major roles in the film.

Redbox offers video game rentals nationwide

After a couple years of testing video game rentals at select kiosks, and expanding to several thousand kiosks last fall, Redbox has now expanded the service to 21,000 kiosks nationwide. Video games will cost $2 a day, which is slightly more than movie discs at $1 for DVDs and $1.50 for Blu-ray Discs.

GameStop taking pre-orders on ‘Black Ops Annihilation’

GameStop announced they're taking pre-orders on the Call of Duty: Black Ops Annihilation DLC due to hit download queues on June 28. The DLC is the third available for Call of Duty: Black Ops and will sell for $14.99. The pack will include the four new multiplayer maps: Hangar 18, Drive-In, Silo and Hazard. A new challenging Zombie map called Shangri-La will also be included.

Criterion announces Blu-ray/DVD titles for September

Criterion has announced new Blu-ray/DVD titles for the month of September. Among them is Robert Altman's "3 Women" (1977), the Swedish films "My Life as a Dog" (1985) and "The Phantom Carriage" (1920), from French director Claude Chabrol "Les Cousins" (1959) and "Le Beau Serge" (1958), and the French film "Carlos" from director Olivier Assayas.

VUDU queues up seasons of Mad Men

Walmart's VUDU service has added seasons of AMC's "Mad Men" to its library, which will soon include Season 4, that according to Variety. The first three complete seasons of "Mad Men" can already be purchased in three different resolutions that include SD ($22.99), HD ($27.99) and HDX ($27.99).

Sanyo to ship 7000 lumens pro HD projector

Sanyo announced they will ship a new 7000 lumens Full HD professional projector in October. The super-bright PLC-HP7000L produces 1920x1080 resolution with 10-bit video processing, and lasts about 10,000 hours without maintenance. Six optional lenses and 360 degree vertical lens setting allow the projector to be placed in a wide range of locations.

Getting HD channels without a cable box

While the CEA would love for over-the-air television signals to end in favor of viewers having to pay for service, the National Association of Broadcasters is still on the consumer's side, arguing that the percentage of homes tuning into OTA signals is currently over 14-percent* and still growing. Still, many HDTV owners aren't aware of the DTV spectrum which provides free over-the-air standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) channels from local broadcasters. So how do you get HD channels without a cable box?
