This week’s Blu-ray releases

Lots of good releases on the Blu-ray shelf this week. Highlights include Kick-Ass (Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack with Digital Copy) starring Nicolas Cage and Mark Strong, The Ghost Writer (Blu-ray/DVD Combo) with Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnan, and Escape from New York (Blu-ray/DVD Combo) — the cult favorite from 1981 directed by John Carpenter starring Kurt Russell as convicted bank robber and eye patch donning Snake Plissken.

[HTML1]Another title to consider is 2003 Oscar Winner Road to Perdition (Dreamworks) which stars Tom Hanks, Tyler Hoechlin, Rob Maxey, and Paul Newman. The film won an Oscar for Best Cinematography and was nominated for five others. BD video is formatted in MPEG-4 at 1080p and presented in 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio.

One more eighties classic now available on Blu-ray (as if Escape from New York wasn’t enough for you) is The Breakfast Club (25th Anniversary Edition) which starred an unforgettable cast of young actors including: Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy — directed by John Hughes.

Heroes: Season Four is packaged with a total of four Blu-ray Discs containing all 19 episodes from the 2009/2010 season. Video is formatted in 1080p/VC-1 at 1.78:1 widescreen aspect ratio and audio available in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.

For music, several titles have been released including Elvis on Tour (with Blu-ray Book), Woodstock: 3 Days of Peace and Music (40th Anniversary Edition), Tom Petty – Classic Albums: Damn the Torpedoes, and the Elvis: Blu-ray Collection (Jailhouse Rock / Viva Las Vegas / Elvis on Tour).

Charlie’s Angels, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, James and the Giant Peach (Two-Disc Special Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo), I Am Legend (Ultimate Collector’s Edition), Mission Impossible Three, and Bull Durham are other titles worth watching on Blu-ray Disc.

Check out all the new Blu-ray Disc releases this week. There are approximately 40 listed (although many are re-released or re-packaged titles).
