Rumored: Hulu to launch on PS3

PS3 may soon support a Hulu paid TV service, according to a Bloomberg report that says a partnership could be announced as early as next week. An agreement between Sony and Hulu could greatly expand the Hulu audience, which is internet-based but could move many of those viewers to their TV sets instead of computer displays.

If it happens, PS3 users who are members on the Playstation Network would be able to view TV content from NBC Universal, Fox, and Disney (ABC). According to the report, Hulu is also in discussions with CBS Corp., Time Warner Inc., and Viacom Inc. to add their television productions to the Hulu lineup.

Talks about creating a subscription for Hulu have been going on for a while now. However, Hulu’s CEO says their ad-based revenue model has been profitable for cash flow.

What’s innovative for viewers, Hulu sometimes allows you to choose what ad types you would like to see during a movie’s ad breaks. For example, before a movie starts you might be able to choose between an advertisement for Bing or for a Travel agency.

The merging of Hulu and Playstation would give Hulu a chance to catch up with subscription-based Netflix, which has already combined web-based streaming content with televisions via PS3, Xbox, and web-connected HDTVs and Blu-ray players.

Parties from Sony and Hulu who were involved in the discussions declined to comment on the possibilities of a partnership.

According to rumors earlier this month, Hulu is also in talks with Microsoft to provide the service to Xbox 360 users.

  1. YouTube and Hulu – A new breed of cable companies . The Comcast plan is easy to understand: Quit cable I’ll catch you in the internet with Hulu. These companies love the subscription models. Google is behind YouTube with the same plan. Game Boxes are the new breed of Cable TV boxes. This TV transition to the internet is not what I expected. Soon independent streaming sites will rule the internet. Another good option is LoggTV for free CNN, cable streams and movies.
