‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand’ to premiere in hi-def

A hi-def program to look out for is Spartacus: Blood and Sand, a new series premiering on Starz Jan. 22, 2010. This classic tale of a gladiator turned legend will mix sex and drama with plenty of battle scenes in a graphic novel style made popular by Frank Miller’s 300.

Make sure the kids are asleep. The trailer looks like quite a blood bath, with no shortage of subtle nudity, violence and globs of flying blood. If you liked 300, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, and Troy you’ll want to check it out.

Cast members include Andy Whitfield (McLeod’s Daughters), Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess), John Hannah (The Mummy) and Peter Mensah (300). Check out the full cast on the Starz website.

Starz is a premium channel available through most cable, fiber-optic and satellite providers, as well as instant play with Netflix. Spartacus: Blood and Sand will premiere on Starz Jan. 22, 2010 at 10PM ET/PT.
