“Surpassing 14 million subscribers is testimony to the strides we made over the past year in providing a best-in-class video experience,” said Charlie Ergen, Chairman, President and CEO of DISH Network.
The company also says they provide 150 national HD channels (compared to DirecTV’s 130 HD channels) in 152 markets. Ergen adds, “We have more high definition channels than any other TV provider, we feature award-winning DVR technology, and we do it all at the most economical prices in the business.”
Putting all discussions of “what is an HD channel” aside, a recent report from MediaBiz puts Dish at the top of HD network offerings at 84, followed by DirecTV at 78. Although, the real leader according to the report is Time Warner in the Flushing, NY market, offering 92 HD networks.
dish was the first to broadcast 1080p with mpeg4 compression. i think directv does now too but not in all markets. i picked dish because of this
Did you know about the time this story came out any dish customer with DVR #625 has no service at all. Since that is the most popular DVR model I would think dish has alot less watchers right now mine has been down for 20 hours. I called twice both times I was told would be back on in four hours still waiting. I told them Cox cable can hook me up in two hours from 8:00am till 8:00pm no wonder you want contracts. Hope you look into this and print a real story not copy off company press release.
Thank You
Dave
