Disney-ABC Television Group and Verizon have agreed to offer ABC content through Verizon’s FiOS TV HD VOD (Video-On-Demand) library. FiOS subscribers can now get “Desperate Housewives,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Lost,” and other TV shows on-demand, in high-definition, and free-of-charge one day after the broadcast premieres.
“New HD programming from ABC helps bring us even closer to our promise to offer FiOS TV customers access to more than 1,000 HD video-on-demand titles every month by year-end,” said Terry Denson, VP – FiOS TV content and programming.
FiOS TV’s VOD library now offers more than 11,000 titles per month, and over 700 are HD titles . Of the 11,000 titles 70 percent are free. However, ABC has disabled fast-forwarding in their VOD content, forcing viewers to view the commercial breaks. A study conducted by Knowledge Networks/Statistical Research showed most viewers found the fast-forward disabled content an acceptable exchange for the free content.
