Best Buy jumps the gun, sells combo Blu-ray/HD DVD player

Best Buy jumps the gun by selling the new LG hi def player before it’s Feb. 4th release date. This player, which was showcased at CES 2007 will play both HD DVD and Blu-ray formats. The LG BH100 also upconverts standard DVD to 720p, 1080i, or 1080p, so no need to replace your entire DVD collection just yet.

Supports full 1080p video, HDMI output for the highest quality connection, network capable via built-in Ethernet, component output if you are not ready for HDMI, and BD-Java which allows enhanced interactive features on certain hi def discs.

Audio features include Dolby Digital Plus, DTS, and DTS-HD decoders with 5.1 channel output.

Retail price is still up there, however not much more than top-of-the-line Blu-ray Disc or HD DVD players. Best Buy’s list price is $1,199.99, but think of it as getting two high end players for the price of one.
