The most recent update to the WatchESPN app for Apple iPad tablets has added a Picture-in-Picture option, letting users stream two ESPN feeds at the same time.
The updated app, Version 1.0.3, is a free 123MB download from iTunes and is available for iPhones, iPads, and iPad touch devices. However, the universal app description is incorrect in suggesting PIP will work on all iOS devices — it really only works on iPads.
Picture-in-Picture is a welcome feature for iPads following MLB.com at Bat’s new support for PIP, and will especially be nice viewing on Apple’s new iPad Pro model hitting stores on Friday.
The WatchESPN app is free, but does require authentication with the username and password associated with a TV service provider.
Feeds from ESPN are available from ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPNU, SEC Network, SEC Network Plus, ESPNnews, ESPN Deportes, and Longhorn Network.
If not connected to a Wi-Fi network, cellular data must be turned on to access the content on WatchESPN.
What about PIP on iPhones and iPod touch devices? Ehh, the screens might be small enough, no?
