DC gets dark with ‘Swamp Thing’ TV series slated for May

DC released a longer teaser trailer for their upcoming Swamp Thing television series following a shorter teaser that debuted last week. The show will premiere its first, 13-episode season on May 31 with an approximate one-hour episode on the DC Universe streaming service.

Swamp Thing, announced in May 2018, stars Crystal Reed as CDC doctor Abby Arcane, Andy Bean as Alec Holland, and Derek Mears as Swamp Thing.

From the looks of the trailer, it seems the show has taken a darker, more horror-style tone than other DC Universe series like Lois & Clark and Batman: The Animated Series.

Comments on YouTube have been generally positive about the upcoming series. One YouTube user thanks DC for “improving standards” while another user says “I am so very hyped.”

Swamp Thing is based on the DC Comic book series that started its first run in 1972. There were several TV adaptations throughout the years, including the 90’s show Swamp Thing that ran for 72 episodes.

Synopsis: Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.
