Apple has been building up partnerships with TV manufacturers to incorporate their iTunes, AirPlay 2 and HomeKit products — with LG, Samsung and Vizio the first of the big manufacturers to announce integration.
Samsung 2019 Smart TVs are expected to support iTunes with a dedicated app starting this spring, as well as support Apple AirPlay 2 that allows content from an iPhone, iPad or Mac computer to play on a TV via Wi-Fi.
LG and Vizio Smart TVs will also soon display content from Apple services and products, but only through AirPlay and HomeKit upon start.
The move by Apple comes at a time when the company’s shares have slid over concerns about declining iPhone sales. Apple is expected to launch a streaming service later this year, and has invested about $1B in content development.
