So, you just got a new 4k Blu-ray player for the holidays and want to know what movies will be releasing to 4k Blu-ray in January. Here’s a list of all the titles we know about for the first month in 2019.
Some highlights include Night School (Jan. 1) starring Kevin Hart, Castle Rock: The Complete First Season (Jan. 8) from Hulu Originals, the remake of Halloween (Jan. 15) also in a SteelBook edition, First Man (Jan. 22) from Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle, The Hate U Give (Jan. 22) based on the novel by Angie Thomas, and Oceans: Our Blue Planet from BBC Earth narrated by Kate Winslet.
In addition, we’re looking forward to re-releases of Cliffhanger (1993) which was originally shot in 35mm and will hopefully get a nice 4k upgrade. And, both How to Train Your Dragon films from DreamWorks that were printed to 35mm and 70mm (IMAX) for theatrical presentation and now upgraded to 4k Blu-ray. Both animated films feature an English DTS:X soundtrack backed by 7.1-channel formats.
