Westworld Season 2: The Door 4k Blu-ray Edition

It’s not often you can buy a TV series on 4k Blu-ray. The first season of Westworld is among very few shows that have been printed on disc in 2160p, and is further enhanced with Dolby Vision (HDR) and Dolby Atmos audio. That’s why I’m excited about the second season on Ultra HD Blu-ray that’s now available to pre-order.

The 6-disc combo edition of Westworld Season Two: The Door on Ultra HD Blu-ray is selling on Amazon for $49.99 (List: $64.99) and includes a Blu-ray and Digital Copy of the season. There is, of course, a 1080p Blu-ray edition with DVD and Digital Copy (List: $57.99), and DVD version (List: $49.99) with just the episodes. (By the way, if you purchased Season 1 of Westworld on Blu-ray the expiration date to redeem your digital copies may be approaching soon, with first run editions listing the deadline as Dec. 31, 2018).

Bonus materials on the Blu-ray editions include almost twenty pieces of content such as the ten production featurettes under the title “Creating Westworld’s Reality,” “Return To Westworld” and three new extras. I’m also hoping a printed booklet like the Season One “Corporate Guidebook” – but so far haven’t seen any mention of this.

Best Buy has another beautiful looking Steelbook edition planned, this time with custom artwork instead of just the cropped “WW” on the Season One cover (see picture below). The “Limited Edition Tin” (only available with 4k Blu-ray/Blu-ray/Digital) is selling for $54.99. Best Buy did have some overstock of the Season One edition (as evidenced by copies still sitting on shelves), but one never knows how many will printed for Season Two. Best to get your pre-orders in to be sure.

Westworld Season Two: The Door will release to disc formats on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Season Two of Westworld didn’t have the critical praise as Season One. Episodes tended to have much longer and drawn-out scenes focusing on one character and storyline rather than jumping around from timeline to timeline. HBO also did something very different with Episode 8 titled “Kiksuya” — an almost entire episode dedicated to Akecheta of the Ghost Nation.

Some critics wondered if the show even needed a second season, and now question a third, but with all the twists, character reveals, award-worthy performance by Ed Harris, and sheer excellence in production this show is a must watch and a must-own on 4k Blu-ray.
