DIRECTV NOW customers have been receiving emails about their existing 100-hour cloud storage getting reduced by 80% to just 20-hours.
The freebie of 100 hours of cloud DVR service was part of a beta testing period that many customers took advantage of, but after the 29th of August only customers’ most recent 20 hours of recordings will stay active (as long as less than 30 days old). The rest will be purged.
All is not lost, however, as DIRECTV NOW plans to offer add-ons to the basic service that will range from 50-120 hours of additional cloud storage. The company has not revealed how much those plans would be or when exactly they would launch.
The question is whether or not the add-ons will be available before the purge of 80% of a member’s cloud storage at the end of the month, allowing customers a chance to save all of their current recordings to a tier of choice.
