Dish Network, who started accepting Bitcoin four years ago, will now accept Bitcoin Cash as payment for monthly services, rentals and purchases. The company also announced a transition to BitPay, considered the largest global blockchain payments provider, for the transaction processing.
“We’ve added Bitcoin Cash just as we chose to accept Bitcoin to serve customers who have adopted a new way of doing business,” said John Swieringa, DISH executive vice president and chief operating officer.
In effect, Dish customers send the exact amount owned as a one-time payment on mydish.com or the Hopper DVR. Then, BitPay exchanges the amount to U.S. dollars immediately during the transaction so there is no risk.
“Our goal for DISH Network is a seamless transition to BitPay so all customers who are currently paying for services with Bitcoin continue to have the option to pay with Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash,” said Sonny Singh, Chief Commercial Officer with BitPay.
He added, “Cryptocurrency is an increasingly popular way for consumers to make purchases online as it reduces credit card fraud and is cheaper for the merchants.”
