The 1978 musical Grease starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John has been digitally restored for release on 4k (2160p) Blu-ray, as well as a Blu-ray Combo with DVD and collectible yearbook. The newly-restored editions celebrate the 40th anniversary of the now, classic romance that made characters like Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson household names.
Both the 4k Blu-ray and Blu-ray editions include the fully restored version of Grease along with the bonus “Grease: A Chicago Story” featuring new interviews with writer Jim Jacobs and original cast members of the Chicago show. The discs also include new alternate titles and an alternate ending salvaged from the original black & white 16mm work print.
Other bonus material previously released includes a sing-along, vintage interviews with the cast, deleted scenes and more. The limited Blu-ray “Yearbook” edition comes in collectible packaging with 16 pages of images.
In addition, a Grease Collection will be available in a Steelbook Locker, which includes the 40th Anniversary Blu-ray of Grease, as well as Grease 2 and Grease: Live! on Blu-ray for the first time.
On Blu-ray, Grease is presented in 1080p while the Ultra HD Blu-ray edition quadruples the pixels at 2160p resolution and adds High Dynamic Range (HDR) for TVs that support it. The English soundtrack is provided in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 channels, along with 5.1 tracks in French, Italian, German and Spanish.
The new 40th Anniversary Edition of Grease will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on April 24th, 2018.
