The CNNgo app for Android TV (called “CNNgo for Android TV”) has been updated to include live TV and full episodes of TV shows on-demand. CNN says they hand-curate selections of videos, live television, and full episodes for the app, and are available in HD resolution.
The “CNN: Breaking US & World News, Live Video” app, or more simply “CNN” for both Android and Apple iOS mobile devices was updated to include Live TV several months ago, but recent updates have improved the experience and fixed several bugs including intermittent pauses while streaming live programming on iOS.
The Android version also added Chromecast support for live TV & full episodes.
The most recent version for iOS is 5.4.1, while the Android version depends on device.
The app for both Android and iOS may have a time limit on watching, but can be expanded to include more content by signing in with a TV service provider login/password.
Reviews of the update have mixed. One review of the Android version 2.0.0.237 app says it’s “much improved after the most recent update,” and, “feels like a feature-complete app. Another Android review says “Nice job with the live TV support! Quality is excellent.”
Unfortunately, the majority of the reviews for the Apple iOS version of the CNN app have been targeted towards content rather than function.
The Android app can be installed or downloaded free from Google Play, while the iOS app can be downloaded free from iTunes or the Apple App Store.
