The Secret Life of Pets
At the top of most popular releases this week is Universal Studios’ The Secret Life of Pets starring Louis C.K. and Kevin Hart. The film is available in several different 2-disc editions to choose from including Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, and 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray. Each combo edition comes with a Digital HD copy redeemable with Apple iTunes or UltraViolet, and, almost a dozen production featurettes, three mini movies, and a sing trailer. Jason Bourne
Universal’s Jason Bourne starring Matt Damon also releases to Blu-ray, 4k Blu-ray, and DVD, along with the entire film franchise on 4k Blu-ray. The 2-disc Blu-ray combos include the featurettes “Bringing Back Bourne,” “The Athens Escape,” and “Underground Rumble,” along with Digital HD copies with iTunes or UltraViolet. The Blu-ray edition is formatted in 1080p, while the 4k Blu-ray disc features 2160p video with HDR (High Dynamic Range), both at 2.4:1 widescreen aspect ratio. The soundtrack is available in English DTS:X and DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1. Price: $19.99 (Blu-ray), $24.99 (Ultra HD Blu-ray)
Mad Max: Fury Road Black & Chrome Edition
Warner Home Video is releasing a special black and white “Chrome” version of Mad Max: Fury Road that director George Miller calls “the best version” of the film. The new chrome edition was previously released in the expensive Mad Max High Octane Anthology Collection ($239), but can now be purchased in a less expensive two-film collection with a new introduction from George Miller to the chrome version, six featurettes, and deleted scenes. English audio is available in immersive Dolby Atmos. Price: $24.99 (Blu-ray)
