After last week’s jam-packed list of top new Blu-ray releases such as Finding Dory, Game of Thrones Season 6, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 3D, it’s hard to imagine this week could be just as extensive. But there are a few titles we suggest adding to your Blu-ray library. The others, well, maybe wait for them on Netflix. Here are our top picks for the week.
Kubo and the Two Strings
Charlize Theron stars in this animated feature from Focus Features. In the film, a young boy named Kubo (played by Art Parkinson) embarks on a mission to find the magical suit of armor worn by his late father. Other voiceovers in Kubo and the Two Strings are performed by Matthew McConaughey, Ralph Fiennes, Rooney Mara, and Star Trek legend George Takei. Mechanic Resurrection
If you like action films, Jason Statham, and Jessica Alba you’re sure to enjoy Mechanic Resurrection. Arthur Bishop is a former hit man who thought he left his past behind but must perform three impossible assassins to save the love of his life. The 2-disc Blu-ray combo from Lionsgate includes Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD copy. For those of you with 4k TVs and a 4k Blu-ray player, Mechanic Resurrection is also available in Ultra HD Blu-ray. Hell Or High Water
Ben Foster and Chris Pine star in this contemporary western from Film 44. In Hell Or High Water, two brothers rob banks in order to save their family’s ranch in West Texas. Oscar winner Jeff Bridges also stars in the film as Sheriff Marcus Hamilton. The 2-disc combo edition from Lionsgate includes a Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD copy of the film. Price: $19.99
