As we near the holidays you can expect more and more hit films and TV shows on Blu-ray Disc; this week might just be the start. Here’s a breakdown of our top picks for the week followed by an extended list of new titles on Blu-ray.
Finding Dory
The long-awaited sequel to Finding Nemo has finally arrived on Blu-ray Disc, and it comes in three different disc formats including Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and DVD. The animated hit Finding Dory from Disney Pixar is available in 2-disc and 3-disc combo editions that also include a Digital HD copy with iTunes (and from what we hear Google Play). Target and Best Buy also have their own exclusive editions. Price: $19.99 (standard Blu-ray)
Game of Thrones Season 6
There’s nothing like re-watching Season 6 to get you prepared for the next season this Spring. HBO Studios’ 4-disc Blu-ray edition Game of Thrones: The Complete Sixth Season has plenty of extras beyond the ten-episode season, including the Blu-ray exclusive “In-Episode Guide” and “Histories and Lore” with 18 sections featuring characters from the show. The Blu-ray edition also provides Digital HD copies from UltraViolet, iTunes, and Google Play. HBO has also released Game of Thrones: The Complete Seasons 1-6 to Blu-ray Disc in a box set. Star Wars: The Force Awakens 3D Collector’s Edition
If you have a 3D TV you may have held off on the standard Blu-ray release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, or not. Nevertheless, Disney & Buena Vista have released a 3D Collector’s Edition that in addition to a 3D version of the film teases with new extra bonus material that hasn’t been seen before such as more deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes conversations with cast and crew, and new audio commentary from director J.J. Abrams. The 4-disc set also includes a Digital HD copy from iTunes and Google Play. Price: $29.99
