It’s hard to believe Black Mass wasn’t nominated for any Oscars this year, especially considering Johnny Depp’s performance of Boston’s notorious gangster “Whitey” Bulger was transforming. But nevertheless it’s a film worthy of having on Blu-ray Disc, and Warner Bros.’ combo edition also includes a DVD and Digital HD copy with UltraViolet.
The 2-disc Blu-ray combo also comes with the bonus featurettes “Black Mass: Deepest Cover, Darkest Crime,” “Johnny Depp: Becoming White Bulger,” and “The Manhunt For Whitey Bulger.”
The Blu-ray is formatted in 1080p at 2.4:1 widescreen aspect ratio with DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack.
Black Mass on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand releases February 16, 2016. The Blu-ray combo carries a high MSRP of $44.99, but Amazon is taking pre-orders for $22.99 (49% off).
The film has already been released to digital SD & HD, as well as the new 4k UHD format from Vudu. The Digital HD costs $19.99, Digital SD $14.99, and 4k UHD $29.99 (Vudu).
