Sony’s online consumer store has stopped taking orders in the United States, effective August 28, 2015 at 1 pm (PST). This includes online orders of Sony electronic products such as televisions, audio equipment, digital cameras, mobile devices, and even the PlayStation 4 console.
Now, if you go to the store you’ll still see products and their descriptions, but the “Add to Cart” button has been removed. And, if anything was already in your cart, there is no way to continue the purchase.
From the Sony Store Online website:
“As we evolve our US business, Sony Store Online will stop taking orders at 1 pm (PST), August 28, 2015. We’re working with our Retail Partners to bring new Sony experiences to shoppers across the nation in store & online.”
This isn’t the end of Sony selling products online, however. The company is working on a new electronics website that Sony says will be coming soon.
Sony Store Online was trending recently, as word got out that the store was selling the PlayStation TV media player for 20% of the suggested retail price.
The change does not affect Sony’s New York City location on Madison Avenue, that will remain open for business.
