The film, directed by Ridley Scott with screenplay written by Drew Goddard, is based on Andy Weir’s first published novel of the same name. In the film, Astronaut Mark Watney (played by Damon) is part of a manned mission to the planet Mars during which a storm leaves him stranded on the planet, alone, and presumed dead. Watney is able to survive long enough to contact NASA, who then embark on a mission to rescue the astronaut. The film’s all-star cast includes Jessica Chastain, Michael Peña, Kristen Wiig, Sean Bean, and Jeff Daniels. Sub-branded with the title “Bring Him Home” (which, we believe, would have been a more appropriate title), The Martian will release to theaters in the US and Sweden on November 25th, 2015, followed by other international releases on November 26th and 27th, December 2 and 3rd.
