It wasn’t long ago that streaming TV out-of-home was limited to a select few channels. But as new deals are made with networks, service providers like DirecTV are living up to the TV Everywhere initiative that’s driven by smartphones, tablets, PCs, and other connected devices. Today, DirecTV announced 22 more channels have been added to their out-of-home lineup, with brands from Viacom, Turner Broadcasting, Univision, Smithsonian, and OWN.
Comedy Central, BET, and TNT are among the new channels available to live stream anywhere via DirecTV’s apps or website. With the exception of MTV2 and TCM, it appears all the channels were previously available while on a home network.
DirecTV says they have seen a 40% increase in the number of subscribers who are streaming programming over the last year. The company now offers almost 90 out-of-home live channels and 120 in-home live streaming channels with today’s additions. And, subscribers can access over 10,000 on demand titles.
