What’s new on Blu-ray Disc, DVD, and Digital HD this week? Universal Studios Home Entertainment has released the sci-fi thriller Lucy starring Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman. The film was previously released to Digital HD (here’s a price comparison), but with the newly released 2-disc edition you can get the film in three formats: Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD all in one package. The digital redemption code works in both iTunes and UltraViolet, by the way, so you can keep on building your digital library with either platform.
Extra bonus material on the Lucy combo edition includes the feature “Cerebral Capacity: The True Science of Lucy” and the Blu-ray exclusive “The Evolution of Lucy.” The Blu-ray is formatted in 1080p at 2.40:1 widescreen aspect ratio with English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack.
Universal Studios has released the hit animated film The Boxtrolls to a Blu-ray Disc combo edition that includes a DVD and Digital HD copy also via either iTunes or UltraViolet. The BD combo includes five featurettes, feature commentary with directors, and other bonus material. The Blu-ray is formatted in 1080p at 1.78:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack. The film is also available in a 3-disc edition with a version in 3D.
And, the 99-minute horror film Annabelle has been released to Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. The Blu-ray combo is the best deal in town, with Blu-ray, DVD and a digital copy to download on UltraViolet. Special bonus features include several featurettes and deleted scenes. The Blu-ray Disc is formatted in 1080p video (2.40:1 aspect ratio) with English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 for audio.
