Netflix has announced they will partner with Weinstein Company to release a full-length feature film for 2015. The feature film, the first for Netflix, will be a sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2001), directed by Ang Lee. According to sources, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend, will premiere in IMAX theaters and on Netflix August 25, 2015.
The film will be directed by martial-arts choreographer Yuen Wo-Ping, and cast members will include Michelle Yeoh, Donnie Yen, Harry Shum Jr., Jason Scott Lee, and Roger Yuan.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend will be the first of several Weinstein titles to release both on the subscriber-based Netflix video service as well as in IMAX theaters.
Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon won four Oscars including Best Foreign Language Picture, Best Original Score, Best Art Direction, and Best Cinematography.
Netflix has produced several original TV shows available to subscribers at no extra charge, including the hit series House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and Lilyhammer.
