In a blog post today, Sony confirmed the lineup of approximately 700 games that will be available to stream over the PlayStation TV when it launches in North America and Europe next month. The PS TV-compatible titles include hits such as the God of War Collection, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, LittleBigPlanet (PSP), Metal Gear Solid, Tekken, and Tomb Raider. In North America, the PlayStation TV will launch on October 14, 2014. In Europe, the device will release a month later on November 14.
The PS TV enables PlayStation 4 owners to play games over a home network via PS4 Remote Play, which streams the games through the device to display on any connected TV. PS Vita games can also be played on the PS TV by downloading or inserting a game card. And, classic games from PS One and PSP can be played through the tiny media device, such Crash Bandicoot, Silent Hill, and Tekken 6.
With the ability to stream games to other television sets in your home, PlayStation TV is posed to compete with established streaming media players such as Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon’s Fire TV that focus more on television and movie content. And although Amazon’s Fire TV was designed for Android-based games (and was even designed for use with the optional Amazon Game Controller), the list of games is far from what will be available from the PlayStation archive that includes current, classic and PS Vita games.
