Toshiba has announced availability of their new line of 4k ‘Ultra HD’ TVs for 2014. And although we’ve yet to spot the SKUs online anywhere the company has detailed two models in 58-inch and 65-inch classes from the new L8400 Series and L9400 Cinema Series, respectively.
Highlights of the new Toshiba 4k TVs include third generation 4K processing with Toshiba’s Quad+Dual Core CQ 4K Engine, PixelPure 4K upscaling technology, 4K 60p HDMI and HDCP 2.2 support for copy protection, and HEVC/H.265 support for 4K streaming from the likes of Netflix and other online distributors that will stream 4k in HEVC.
In addition those upgrades, Toshiba says they have doubled the brightness of standard LEDs with their new Toshiba Radiance 4K Full Array LED Panels being used for the first time in the L9400 Cinema Series. As far as refresh rate, the L8400 renders frames at 120Hz while the L9400 doubles the refresh rate at 240Hz, both sets utilizing ClearScan technology.
For audio, both models feature DTS Premium Sound, a Labyrinth Speaker System that increases SPL & bass response, and a feature called Sonic Separation that allows you to adjust background and vocal sound levels separately.
The L8400 4k Ultra HD TV is available with a 58-inch screen size and sells for $2,499, while the higher end L9400 Cinema 4k TV is available in a 65-inch screen size that sells for $3,999.
