MGM and New Line Cinema have released a clip of an extended scene that’ll be available on The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition once released. Running just over 2 minutes long, the clip is an excellent piece of cinematography that would have easily fit in the film, but cut out of the resulting 161-minute theatrical release.
The clip also gives us a release date for the The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition that will include Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and Digital HD copy, along with bonus material (of which full details have not been announced). The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Extended Edition is slated for home release on November 3, 2014 – about a month and a half before The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies hits theaters on December 17.
In The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) has gained possession of the One Ring, and along with Gandalf and the 13 dwarfs journeys to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. ‘The Desolation of Smaug’ also stars Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, Orlando Bloom as Legolas, Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel, and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield.
