Time Warner Cable customers now have access to more TV channels via the TWC App, after the provider closed a deal with content provider Scripps Networks Interactive. The new networks include Scripps-owned Cooking Channel, DIY, Food Network, HGTV, and Travel Channel, bringing the total number of nationwide channels available nationwide on the app to twelve. What’s significant about the channel additions is the ability to watch programming outside of your home, a feature previously restrained by many channel distribution deals but gaining popularity as service providers each embrace their own “TV Everywhere” initiatives.
The TWC App for iOS was updated to allow viewing away from home back in April, and the updated Android version followed a month later, with the addition of access to On Demand titles.
Time Warner Cable says customers used the TWC app close to 5 million times last June, which is twice the amount of usage recorded a year ago.
