Analyst Michael Pachter (Wedbush Securities) has given his estimates for pricing of the next-gen Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles. Based on initial prices of the Xbox 360 and PS3, Pachter says the new Xbox will launch with an MSRP of $399, while the PS4 will be $50 less at $349. Pachter also based his estimates on the cost of parts needed to assemble each console. If his estimations are on target, Sony would have learned something from the launch of the $499 PS3 20GB in 2006 which was priced significantly higher than the 20GB 360 at $399. (And, remember the 60GB PS3 was $599.) If the PS4 sells at release for $349, Sony has a chance to steal away some Xbox owners considering upgrading to the One. Although, lack of a Blu-ray player in the next Xbox won’t be a factor this time.
