Comedy pilots Alpha House and Betas, along with children’s shows Annebots, Creative Galaxy and Tumbleaf have all been greenlit by Amazon to start production of a full series of episodes. The shows (the first from Amazon Studios) will air exclusively on Amazon Prime Instant Video by the end of the year and early in 2014. The company says feedback from Amazon and LOVEFiLM customers helped decide which pilots would be greenlit, in what Alpha House creator Garry Trudeau called a “harrowing exercise in online democracy.” Michael London, Executive Producer of Betas recalls “many sleepless nights scrutinizing the number of stars [they] were getting online.”
The three children’s shows that were greenlit strive towards programming that combines entertainment and learning. Creative Galaxy creator Angela C. Santomero said, “we need more innovative kids programming that puts a strong emphasis on creativity and education.”
Amazon Studios launched in 2010 and claims 15,000 movie scripts and 3,600 series pilot scripts have already been submitted. They are currently developing and testing 24 movie titles.
