As we hit mid-April, Netflix streaming users have a new batch of programming to take in (and share with assorted friends and family). Perhaps the biggest get of the month is Paranorman, last summer’s semi-spooky animated comedy, starring the voices of Casey Affleck, and — whoa — a Tempestt Bledsoe sighting! The scary vibe continues with Scream 4, the 2011 installment in the self-aware slasher films. Original director Wes Craven was back at the helm for this one, with David Arquette, Neve Campbell, and Courteney Cox reprising their roles.
And while it’s not a horror film, there’s no doubt the most brutal depiction of violence can be found in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. The 2004 religious drama cost $30 million to make and made an astounding $611 million at the box office. Other new notable streaming titles include Netflix original series Hemlock Grove, Tom Green: Live, and Safe.
