CNN announces launch of CNN Films

CNN has officially announced the launch of CNN Films, a production and distribution company that will focus on non-fiction content to be aired on television, over-the-internet, and in theaters. CNN also announced deals with directors Alex Gibney (“Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room”) and Andrew Rossi (“Page One: Inside the New York Times”) to create original documentaries to air on CNN. “CNN Films will bring distinguished, thought-provoking documentary programming,” said CNN Worldwide Managing Editor Mark Whitaker. The first film to air on CNN and CNN International will be “Girl Rising,” a documentary that tells the stories of 10 extraordinary girls from 10 different countries and the hurdles they face in their quests for education.
