Somehow, someway, it appears George Lucas is ready push yet another button on his loyal fan base. Just months after the dust up over the changes made to the films for the long-awaited Blu-ray release of the complete saga, there’s a strong rumor that Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace will be quickly released on 3D Blu-ray this spring, after its current run in theaters wraps up. Pocket-lint reports the film will likely replace Avatar as the bundled film of choice with Panasonic Blu-ray players, though whether it’ll be an exclusive is unknown. Of course, all of this is still unknown, but given the track record of those involved, it sadly makes sense. Each Star Wars film is scheduled to be released in 3D yearly in theaters, so a similar 3D Blu-ray schedule would follow suit. So let’s see: You can buy the complete boxed set now on Blu-ray, or buy each individual 3D release, or wait until 2018 to buy the 3D boxed set–or, of course, buy all of the above. Hey George, wouldn’t it just be easier to take our blood?

they shouldn’t even bother with 3D for older films. I saw Phantom in 3D and it sucked. Clone Wars (the animated series) would work OK for 3D. I would like to see a new live action series from Lucas. Maybe the Old Republic. Instead of quadruple dipping on the same SW movies.
Thanks for the feedback about Phantom Menace in 3D. If I hear enough people say the extra “dimension” isn’t worth it, I’ll be able to pull the trigger on the Blu-ray set soon.
if lucas releases the first three films (now, 4, 5, 6) to 3D, I will toss all my SW discs in the fireplace. I cant take it anymore!
I went to see this movie and 3D and it was horrible. There was no reason for it to be in 3D, and certainly not worth the $16 I paid for the ticket. There is no comparison to Avatar by the way. Avatar was made for 3D. Star Wars wasn’t. I also forgot how stupid Jar Jar Binks is. If they took him out the film it would have been decent.
