Oh, how we love Discovery shows in hi-def. And that's why we're surprised to find Gaiam Inc. will release eight Discovery titles on DVD this month, but not on Blu-ray Disc. "American Loggers," "How the Universe Works," "Dinosaurs: Perfect Predators" -- those are a few of the titles that will hit shelves throughout the month of June. They're all great shows which were probably shot in HD but unfortunately dropped to 480p for home release. I guess that's why they invented upscaling?

True Blood: The Complete First Season on Blu-ray is now selling for $39.99 -- that's half off the list price of $79.98. The HBO Home Video release includes five Blu-ray Discs for a total run time of 720 minutes. Extras include a vampire documentary, six audio commentaries from the cast and crew, and additional special features.
Warner Bros. has announced start of production of 3D film "Jack the Giant Killer" slated for release June 15, 2012. Director/Producer Bryan Singer started principle photography of the film in London, which will star Nicholas Hoult (“X-Men: First Class”), Stanley Tucci (“Julie & Julia”), and Ewan McGregor (“Star Wars”).
Starz Entertainment will make HD feeds available for their EENCORE ACTION and ENCORE DRAMA channels, bringing their total high-definition channel count to 11. The premium network will also add ENCORE ESPANOL and launch MOVIEPLEX as its own commercial-free premium movie channel. Starz says upgrades will happen on August 1, 2011
DirecTV has added five premium HD channels to their lineup, that according to TVPredictions.com. The new hi-def channels include HBO Comedy East (Channel 506), HBO Latino East (Channel 511), MoreMax East (Channel 517), ActionMax East (Channel 519), and ThrillerMax (Channel 522).
It's been long anticipated (since Fox Soccer Channel started offering a 720p feed back in January, 2010), and now it appears Comcast is offering FSC in HD to its 23 million+ subscribers. The news comes via Goal.com who picked up on a NYTimes mention that seems to have gone unnoticed.
"House" Season Seven on Blu-ray Disc and DVD will hit shelves August 30, 2011. The Universal Studios Home Entertainment release will contain all 23 episodes of the FOX production, along with over three hours of added content.
