NBC Universal has announced the release Friday Night Lights Seasons 1-5 repackaged DVD set on March 6, 2012. But the announcement comes as a disappointment for Blu-ray player owners who have put their DVD collections on the curb. What gives? The show is shot in HD and broadcast in 1080i, so why not the discs? In fact, none of the Friday Night Lights seasons are available on Blu-ray Disc. However, don’t confuse Friday Night Lights the TV show with Friday Night Lights the movie starring Billy Bob Thornton — which is available on Blu-ray. For those of you who trust your BD player’s upscaling talent, the DVDs are presented in Anamorphic Widescreen and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround with plenty of deleted scenes, audio commentary and featurettes to go around. Seasons 1-5 were previously released to DVD on 19 discs. That set still sells for about $97 and a few copies are left on Amazon.
