Billy Crystal has signed on for this year’s Academy Awards event, after comedian Eddie Murphy stepped down as host. Crystal is a proven success at fronting the event, hosting a total of eight Oscars and winning five Emmys. The actor tweeted yesterday that he’s “doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions.”
Eddie Murphy dropped out as host the Oscars, even after appearing on Jimmy Kimmel promoting the event and the film “Tower Heist.” He quit a day after producer Brett Ratner (who directed “Tower Heist”) stepped down after making some controversial remarks on the Howard Stern Show.
The 84th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California.
