Dish Network has announced they will premiere the upcoming thriller “The Resident” starring Hillary Swank as a pay-per-view title the same it releases to theaters. The move could be a trendsetter, opening the door for more movies to be released for home viewing rather than restricted to theaters.
There have been rumblings about movies having home premieres as well as in cinemas ever since hi-def home theaters have become more and more popular. Why drive out to a cinema, pay $10 for a ticket and other $10 for a Coke and popcorn when you can enjoy a movie opening from home?
However, talk of pricing for premium movie premieres at home ranged anywhere from $20 to $30 per viewing – an amount that might be fine for a group viewing but a bit high for single or even dual viewing. Dish’s PPV offering will cost viewers only $5.99 for HD and $4.99 standard definition.
“The Resident” features Hillary Swank as Juliet, a young, beautiful doctor who begins a new life after separating from her husband. Her stunning, spacious loft apartment in Brooklyn seems too good to be true and when mysterious occurrences lead her to believe she’s not alone, Juliet discovers the unthinkable – someone is watching. The movie co-stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“Grey’s Anatomy” and “Watchmen”) and Christopher Lee (“Lord of the Rings” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”).
“The Resident” will be available on DISH Pay-Per-View in HD on Ch. 541 from Feb. 18-28 and in standard definition on Ch. 543 from Feb. 18-21 and Ch. 549 from Feb. 22-28.
I am so excited! I cannot wait till this comes out, and it is only a couple weeks away! Working for DISH allows me to be able to know all of the programming coming out and this is one that I am excited for. I knew we were the leaders in HD, but to start as the only pay TV provider offering a premiere of a movie same day as in theaters; rocks! I highly suggest DISH to anyone else because you wont get near the cool advantages that you do when you join DISH!
