A nice bunch of Blu-rays have hit the shelves today. Toy Story 3 is a big release although your head might spin choosing between the 4-disc, trilogy, or single disc versions. If you already have the first two Toy Story films we suggest the Toy Story 3 four-disc release with DVD and digital copy – you never know when those standard-def copies will come in handy.
HBO miniseries The Pacific is available as a 6-disc set from HBO Home Video. The epic 10-part miniseries from Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg won a slew of Emmy Awards including “Outstanding Miniseries” and “Outstanding Art Direction.” The hi-def video is presented in 1080p resolution at 1.78:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.
Also released today are several classics on hi-def Blu-ray. The Sound of Music (1965) is available as a 45th Anniversary Edition with two Blu-ray Discs and DVD and also as a Limited Edition Collector’s Set Blu-ray/DVD Combo. Other classics on Blu-ray this week include The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), White Christmas (1954), and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968).
IMAX has several releases on Blu-ray 3D. IMAX: Grand Canyon Adventure: River at Risk (Blu-ray 3D Version), IMAX: Dinosaurs Alive! (Blu-ray 3D Version) and IMAX: Wild Ocean (Blu-ray 3D Version) are some great titles to show off your 3D home theater system.
