Sanyo announces affordable HD underwater video camera

HD video cameras used to be expensive. HD underwater cameras even more expensive. But this new Sanyo HD packs some quality features and comes at an affordable price. The Sanyo VPC-CA102 can record 480 minutes of full HD video (1920 x 1080) at 60i onto a 64GB SDXC memory card.

The camera’s 38mm wide-angle lens features 5x optical zoom and 12x digital zoom (equivalent to 40mm to 480 mm zoom in a 35mm film camera). Video is formatted in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, making video sharing and transferring of files easy.

The Sanyo VPC-CA102 also acts as a 14.4 mega-pixel still camera, and can shoot 22 photos at 7 frames per second in the camera’s “High-Speed Sequential Shooting” mode.

The VPC-CA102 is rated waterproof at depths up to 10 feet (3 meters). The camera’s bright yellow color increases visibility underwater, and is easy to manage at just 5.5 ounces.

Other features include Digital Image Stabilizer, Face Detection, Enhanced Eye-Fi, and 2.7″ wide LCD display.

The Sanyo VPC-CA102 ($349 MSRP) is now available for pre-order and will ship Aug. 20. View all features and technical specifications of the VPC-CA102.
