Spartacus: Blood and Sand to premiere tonight in HD

spartacus-blood-and-sand-still2-330x186Starz’s original TV series Spartacus: Blood and Sand will premiere tonight in HD (1080i) at 10pm ET/PT. The season will run 13 episodes and according to sources has already renewed for a second season, even before broadcasting its premiere episode.

The series will focus on the Roman gladiator, Spartacus, who led a slave uprising against the Roman Empire around 70 BCE. The series is filmed in a graphic novel style apropos of Frank Miller’s 300, and, from the trailer appears to share cinematic similarities with HBO’s Rome and films such as Troy, Alexander, and of course Ridley Scott’s Gladiator.

The show stars Andy Whitfield (McLeod’s Daughters) as Spartacus,, Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess) as Lucretia, John Hannah (The Mummy) as Batiatus and Peter Mensah (300) as Doctore.

Starz is a premium network available through most cable, fiber-optic and satellite providers, as well as instant play with Netflix.
