Out on Blu-ray this week

district-9-blu-rayPretty slim pickin’s on the Blu-ray shelf this week although District 9 is certainly a must-have or at least a must-see in your home theater. The Neill Blomkamp film (produced by Peter Jackson) presents a unique vision in a sci-fi film that isn’t overshadowed by big name actors.

Family Guy Presents: Something Something Something Dark Side is an animated film now on Blu-ray Disc which retells Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in a way only Family Guy can tell it.

The Japanese film Ichi (2008) is available on Blu-ray and is another remake on the ancient tale of a blind samurai. But this time the samurai also happens to be a woman (played by Haruka Ayase).

If you are a Herzog fan you may want to look for his ’05 film Grizzly Man which tells the story of two grizzly bear activists who were killed as they lived with bears in Alaska. Unfortunately it appears the Blu-ray Disc has been discontinued with only a few copies are out there.

Some of this week’s releases include:

  • District 9 (Norman Anstey, Anthony Bishop)
  • Family Guy Presents: Something Something Something Dark Side (eth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Seth Green)
  • Ichi (Japanese – Takao Osawa, Shido Nakamura, and Haruka Ayase)
  • (500) Days of Summer (Zooey Deschanel)
  • All About Steve (Sandra Bullock)
  • It Might Get Loud (Jimmy Page, The Edge, Jack White, Bono)
  • Extract (Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman)
  • Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (Michael Douglas, Jesse Metcalfe)
  • American Pie Presents: The Book of Love (Cristina Agosti, Jennifer-Juniper Angeli)

I got District 9 and Family Guy. You know which one I’m likely to watch again?
