Netflix increasing Blu-ray rental fees by 20%

Netflix will raise Blu-ray rental fees effective April 27, that according to a company announcement today. The increase will be about 20% on top of the normal subscription rate which varies according to how many titles you rent per month. For example, if you take only one DVD out at-a-time per month the rate would be $5.99 instead of $4.99 for Blu-ray rentals. On the other side of the spectrum, if your plan allows 8 DVDs out at-a-time, your rate would increase from $47.99 to $56.99.

Netflix’s Blu-ray library has grown to 1300 titles, and according to the company the price increase will allow them to stock more copies to keep up with demand. Blu-ray rentals currently make up about 10% of their rental business.
